Dr. Collins graduated in 1970 from Clemson University and 1973 from the College of Dental Medicine, Medical University of South Carolina. He practiced privately for eight years in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina before joining the full time dental faculty at MUSC in 1984. Dr. Collins retired in 2011 but still teaches two days per week in the restorative clinics. Academic interests include the psychological considerations of dental students and their education as well as all aspects of restorative dentistry - particularly esthetics and color. Dr. Collins is a recipient of the South Carolina Dental Association's Meritorious Achievement Award and of the American Student Dental Association's National Faculty Award of Excellence. He was Director of Alumni Affairs for the College 1986-2003 and was a three time president of the alumni association. He is a member of Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society, and is a Fellow of the International College of Dentists and the American College of Dentists. Outside interests include fishing, hunting, golf, cooking, travel and tinkering with his 1929 Model A Ford. He has caught two world record fish.
