Joseph F. Thompson, Jr MHA
Assistant Dean for Finance and Administration
Mr. Thompson is a 1974 graduate of the College of Charleston and is a native Charlestonian. He received his M.H.A. degree from the Medical University of South Carolina. In addition to his experience in higher education administration, Mr. Thompson has more than twenty years of management experience in the manufacturing and healthcare industries. He served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves as a dental specialist from 1969-1975 while pursuing his undergraduate degree from the College of Charleston. Actively involved in the life of the Charleston community, Mr. Thompson's current affiliations include his service as a member of the College of Charleston Board of Trustees, the Exchange Club of Charleston and a consultant for the American Dental Association Commission on Dental Accreditation. In 2005 he received the Order of the Palmetto, the state's highest civilian honor, for extraordinary service to the state and nation. Socially, he is a member of the Carolina Yacht Club, the Hobcaw Yacht Club, the Sea Island Yacht Club, the Hibernian Society and St. Philip’s Church. His interests include golf, boating and gardening. He is married to the former Laura Seabrook Jenkins and they have one son who is a Cardiology Fellow at the University of Kentucky.
