Kid in hallIn addition to its excellent clinical reputation, MUSC Children's Hospital also has grown into a renowned pediatric research center. The hospital today houses 40 laboratories, where researchers are on the cutting edge of discovering better treatments for multiple sclerosis, leukemia, childhood diabetes and other illnesses.

MUSC Children's Hospital would not be the successful pediatric health care organization it is today without the generous support of so many individuals, groups and businesses. Through generous donations of time, funds, goods and services our facility remains a thriving, growing and caring institution, built by and for our community.

By contributing to MUSC Children's Hospital you are helping us provide the most comprehensive pediatric care in South Carolina and making a difference for our children.

Our Children's Hospital Fund plays a major role in the development of programs at MUSC Children's Hospital and they need community support for three primary purposes. The first is to support the child life department of the hospital with toys, games, art supplies and other materials to entertain children and make their visit more pleasant. The second is to support research in the prevention and treatment of childhood diseases by seeking gifts from individuals, businesses and foundations to help build and develop the Children's Research Institute. And the third is to support the development of treatment programs within the department of pediatrics.

Current Funding Needs

Children's Research Institute
The Medical University is now building a new facility devoted to finding new cures and treatments for childhood diseases: The Children's Research Institute. When the 121,000-square-foot Institute opens in early 2005, it will be the largest and most comprehensive pediatric research facility in the Carolinas, with 150 state-of-the-art laboratory modules where researchers will work non-stop to discover the causes of and cures for ailments that continue to afflict young people in alarming numbers, including cancer, congenital heart disease, genetic disorders, diabetes and many others. The Institute will cost $36 million to build. Of this amount, the Medical University will need to secure $16 million from private sources.
