Where Your Help is Needed : College of Pharmacy
The Medical University of South Carolina’s College of Pharmacy has a long and proud tradition of training professionals for a career in the field of pharmacy. Founded in 1881, the College has long been recognized as one of the top pharmacy colleges in the Southeast, having been ranked in the nation’s top 25 by U.S. News & World Report and offering one of the largest and most respected residency programs in the country. In 2004, the Medical University’s College of Pharmacy united with the University of South Carolina’s pharmacy school to create a single, statewide enterprise, the South Carolina College of Pharmacy. The integrated College combines the nationally recognized faculty, staff, and resources of the Medical University, a major academic medical center, and the University of South Carolina, a large comprehensive university, to create a statewide approach to pharmacy education that is on a par with some of the most highly regarded colleges in the United States. Students have broader access to experts and an increased range of training opportunities. The SCCP offers expanded pharmacy education and service throughout the state, provides national leadership in residency programs, and conducts pioneering research that leads to new and improved treatments for common diseases. The first class of students for the South Carolina College of Pharmacy matriculated in August 2006. The SCCP has 190 students in each class – 110 on the USC campus; 80 on the MUSC campus. In total, over 700 pharmacy students are enrolled on the campuses of the Medical University of South Carolina the University of South Carolina. Priority Needs New MUSC Pharmacy Education Facility ($30 Million) The South Carolina College of Pharmacy is planning for the construction of an 83,000 gross square feet facility to be located on the Medical University campus. This academic and research building will serve as the new home for the MUSC Campus pharmacy program. The new building offers numerous investment options, each providing you with an opportunity to have your name, the name of a loved one, or your business name displayed prominently in the College of Pharmacy.
Endowed Chairs and Professorships ($4 Million)
Endowed chairs and professorships enable the College to attract world-renowned educators, researchers and clinicians. As well, Chairs and Professorships position the College as a leader in a particular field. Most often, endowed chairs and professorships are named in honor of the donor or another important individual and serve as a perpetual legacy of that person's commitment to the pharmacy profession. Endowed Scholarships ($2 Million)
Approximately 90 percent of MUSC pharmacy students rely on financial support to pay for their education. With the PharmD education approaching $66,000, the need for scholarships becomes even more critical. Scholarships also enable MUSC to compete for academically talented students who are being aggressively recruited by other academic medical centers and universities. They allow us to retain “the best and the brightest” students. College of Pharmacy Annual Giving Program The Annual Giving Program supports a wide range of resources designed to support enhanced learning through the university, including: - Student financial aid
- Equipment and teaching materials
- Classroom and laboratory renovations
- Expanded educational opportunities for students and alumni
- Emergency loans, student travel and student research
Because the program supports an "unrestricted" fund, it enables the college to meet needs as they arise - helping a student to attend a seminar, replacing broken equipment, or providing emergency scholarship funds. It is this flexibility and responsiveness to student needs that makes the College of Pharmacy education a truly unique and exceptional one.
