Thank-You Notes

A note from the editors - February 2014

Hi, there!

Allyson, Amanda, Vivian

Scholarships mean the difference between attracting and losing some of the country’s most promising future physicians.

Nearly 90 percent of MUSC’s medical students rely on loans to complete their education. And their average debt, upon graduation, totals a staggering $192,000.

With diminishing state support and corresponding tuition increases, the MUSC College of Medicine plans to make an unprecedented move to ensure that we don’t miss out on our best emerging doctors because of financial limitations. This spring the College of Medicine will kick off its first-ever scholarship campaign with a goal of raising $20 million over several years.

As a preview to that endeavor, we wanted to introduce you to some of our current scholarship recipients. Meet a few students who received funding in honor of our former president, Dr. James B. Edwards. We think you’ll like them.

Sincerely,

Allyson Crowell, Amanda Crocker and Vivian Ivory
