2009 EMPOWERR Community Needs Assessment
In January 2009, the EMPOWERR Program conducted a Community Needs Assessment to determine the needs of minority families in Charleston County regarding HIV and substance use prevention services.
Highlights of the findings include:
- There is a desire for education based and ethno-centered HIV and substance use prevention services that target behavior change among adolescents.
- There is a need for a centered place where parents, youth, community leaders, and faith based leaders can go to get information about area resources regarding HIV and substance use.
- There is a need for transportation to access these services.
