MUSC Education & Student Life Annual Report for 2010-2011
ESL Annual Report | CARES Clinic
The MUSC student-run interprofessional CARES Clinic won the South Carolina Volunteer Group Award for the 2011 South Carolina Governor’s Volunteer awards. The clinic provides health care for underserved and disadvantaged individuals in the Charleston community. The nomination, submitted by clinic faculty director, Dr. Wanda Gonsalves, reported students volunteered over 5,000 hours and saw over 1,500 patients in the last year. CARES is an outstanding example of student interprofessional and collaborative service learning. ESL’s Creating Collaborative Care is one of several sponsors providing financial support for the clinic.
