Academic Credit Guidelines
Academic Credit Calculations
The following guide for calculating credit hours was approved by the University Curriculum Planning and Coordinating Committee.

|Lecture||1 credit hour for 15 contact hours|
|Laboratory||1 credit hour for 30 contact hours|
|Seminar||1 credit hour for 15 contact hours|
|Conferences||1 credit hour for 22.5 contact hours|
|Small Group Instruction||1 credit hour for 15 contact hours|
|Independent Study||1 credit hour for 15 contact hours|
|Clinical||1 credit hour of 30 contact hours|
|Practicum/Preceptorship||1 credit hour for 30 contact hours|
|Clerkship||1 credit hour for 40 contact hours|
Laboratory Course - A 6 credit hour lab would be scheduled to meet 180 hours (6 credits x 30 hours)
Lecture Course - A 5 credit hour lecture would be scheduled to meet 75 hours (5 credits x 15 hours)
Calculating Credit in on-line courses:
Students must spend at least 1 hour per week (15 hours per semester) of supervised instructional time and/or facilitated group work to receive 1 credit hour for the course.
A general guideline is that the student should also expect to spend at least twice the amount of instructional time engaged in educational activities specifically related to the course.

The following course numbers scheme was approved by the University Education Committee.
