Distance Education

The University has strengthened its commitment to expand educational programs beyond the Charleston campus. This commitment is demonstrated in the University’s ever increasing use of three distance education technologies: one-way video and audio systems delivered either by satellite, by SCETV, or by the Health Communications Network; two-way video and audio systems delivered over compressed video dedicated network and dial-in telecommunications lines; and Internet World Wide Web sites with both synchronous and asychronous communications. Instruction is enhanced by document cameras, computer and slide projection, and VCR’s. Faculty design their own courses using course development software or enlist the assistance of the University’s special technical staff. The distance education program is under the direction of the University’s Distance Education Director.
