Public Education
The Office of Public Education is a multidisciplinary group committed to reaching the public in homes, cars, schools, and community settings. Several new projects are being piloted, including a problem-based learning health program for public school children in grades 3-12. Hosted on an annual basis are minimed schools at a variety of South Carolina sites, including South Carolina State University, Winthrop University, Coastal Carolina University, and Benedict College.
The office also staffs a variety of initiatives for the eighteen neighborhoods of the Enterprise community, with a goal to address priority health issues including training and education for 60 lay health workers, working with specific agencies and neighborhood centers to integrate health activities such a CPR training, fire safety, children’s health education, and flu vaccines. A grant allowed the office to establish hypertension and diabetes management and education programs in this community.
