Application for the Certificate in Biomedical Sciences

Description

The Certificate Program in Biomedical Sciences is a one-year program specifically designed to provide students with a structured opportunity to acquire knowledge and skills that will prepare them for the challenges of applying to and succeeding in medical school. The program contains didactic coursework at the graduate professional level, professional skills development sessions, MCAT preparation, and clinical exposures to form a complementary skill set to those that have been acquired at the undergraduate level.

Requirements

Prerequisites for the program include obtaining at least a baccalaureate degree with coursework appropriate for admission to medical school. For suggestions for coursework to take to apply to the College of Medicine at MUSC click here: http://academicdepartments.musc.edu/com/admissions/applying_college/

Applicants should also have taken the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) within two years of the date of matriculation. Coursework for the certificate program will include MCAT preparation tutoring and strategies.

Application Process

Applications may be submitted at any time within the dates specified below. You need to fill in the application completely and arrange to have three letters of reference and official MCAT scores sent to MUSC. You will also need to submit official transcripts from all prior institutions before an application will be considered complete. All applications to the College of Graduate Studies must be submitted online.

Previous MUSC Applicants

Students who have previously applied to MUSC’s medical school within the last year are especially encouraged to apply. If you have previously applied, you may use the same CollegeNet ID and password to apply for the certificate program as you used previously to apply to medical school. Much of your information should pre-populate from your previous medical school application. Make sure to update your contact information if it has changed since you previously applied. In this case, you DO NOT need to fill out the essay, CV, or reference letters sections, as we will obtain this from your previous medical school application. We will also evaluate your coursework from the AMCAS application, but you will need to send in official transcripts for coursework completed since the AMCAS was submitted.

Disclaimers: Please note that successful completion of this program is in no way a guarantee of an interview or acceptance into medical school at MUSC or anywhere else. To be eligible for financial aid, students must be admitted and enrolled in a degree program offered by the Medical University of South Carolina. Students enrolled in graduate certificate programs are not eligible for such support.
