Application for the Bachelor of Health Science Cardiovascular Perfusion
The Cardiovascular Perfusion Program (CVP) is a baccalaureate program in the College of Health Professions at MUSC. Perfusionists are responsible for the patient's physiologic requirements during open-heart surgery when cardiac and respiratory functions are diverted to the heart-lung machine. MUSC's Cardiovascular Perfusion program is considered to be one of the best programs in the country. The program has an active research agenda focused on improving patient care through scientific evaluation of techniques and devices. The graduates of this program are among the most sought-after in the field with starting salaries around $70,000.
Prerequisites for admission to the Cardiovascular Perfusion program consist of a minimum of two years (60 semester hours) at an accredited college or university, competitive SAT, ACT or GRE scores, and a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above in all college work. Applicants must have shadowed a perfusionist prior to acceptance. Additional requirements and a full list of prerequisites coursework can be found at http://academicdepartments.musc.edu/chp/cvp/index.htm.
