Alexander Graham Bell Scholarship

The AG Bell scholarship program offers scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $10,000 for qualified students with moderate to profound hearing loss to continue their undergraduate or graduate education. Eligibility requirements include: Applicants must be identified as having a moderate to profound hearing loss since birth or before acquiring language and must have a 60 db or greater hearing loss in the better ear in the speech frequencies of 500, 1000 and 2000 Hz; must use speech and residual hearing and/or lipreading as their primary /preferred means of communication, must attend or be accepted at a college or university that primarily enrolls students with normal hearing.

Adolph Van Pelt Scholarship

This scholarship is open to undergraduate and graduate students of Native American heritage (25%). It is based on financial need and merit. The scholarship is renewable for up to four years. Agnes Jones Jackson Scholarship

Students who have been active members of the NAACP for at least one year and have participated in NAACP youth council activities are eligible for this scholarship. Air Force ROTC Scholarships

Air Force ROTC offers scholarships up to $15,000 annually as well as a monthly stipend. ROTC also guarantees you a job upon graduation starting at over $35,000 per year. American Association of University Women Career Development Grants

A program designed to support women who hold a bachelor's degree and are preparing to advance their careers, change careers or re-enter the work force. Priority is given to AAUW members, minority women and women pursuing their first advanced degree or credentials in non traditional career fields. American Association of University Women International Fellowships

AAUW offers fellowships for full time study or research to women who are not US citizens or permanent residents. Eligibility criteria include academic achievement, professional potential and the potential of the student's field of study assisting in the improvement of lives of women and girls in their home country. Datatel Scholars Foundation Scholarship

The Datatel Scholars Foundation offers four scholarships aimed at targeting a variety of students at Datatel Client Campuses. ( MUSC is a Datatel software user and is considered a Client Campus) Scholarships are not based solely on need or academic achievement.

  1. 1. Datatel Scholars Foundation Scholarship: For students attending a Datatel client college or university or working at a Datatel non-education client site and enrolled in a client college or university.
  2. Angelfire Scholarship: Veterans, Spouses, or children, that served in Vietnam or the Asian Theatre during the 1964-1975 timeframe. Refugees of Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam also fit this category. It is also available for soldiers who served in the military during periods of combat.

HHS offfers annual scholarships starting at $1500 for students with hemophilia and vonWillebrand disease. Hispanic Scholarship Fund

Founded in 1975, the Hispanic Scholarship Fund( HSF) was designed to assist Hispanic American students complete their college education. Scholarships ranging from $1000 to $3,000 are made on a competitive basis to two-year and four-year college students and graduate students of Hispanic heritage. Dr. and Mrs. Lawrence F. McManus Scholarship

Medical University Women's Club Scholarships

Navy Health Services Scholarship Programs

Navy Health Services Scholarship Programs offers 3 separate assistance programs for students or residents who meet specific Navy needs:

  1. Financial Assistance Program (FAP)
    This is for qualifed physicians and dentists who are working in their residencies. Participants earn an annual lump sum of approximately $23,000 and a monthly stipend of over $1100 in addition to their residency pay.
  2. Health Professions Scholarship Program (HPSP)
    This program is for medical and dental students and pays full tuition, fees, books , equipment rental and a monthly stipend of over $1100 per month.. Students are required to spend 45 days per year on active duty while in school and apply to a Navy internship or residency upon graduation. They must serve 1 year active duty as a Navy officer for each scholarship year granted, with a minimum 3-year service committment.
  3. Health Services Collegiate Program (HSCP)
    HSCP is for students in Master's Programs or Doctoral Programs studying dental medicine, pharmacy , health care administration and others.
    School schedules are unaffected and the students wear civilian clothing. However, they receive a monthly salary with benefits. Upon graduation, they are commissioned as Naval Officers and are required to serve a minimum of three years on active duty with the Navy Dental Corps or Medical Service Corps.

NC Student Loan Program for Health, Science and Mathematics

The State of NC General Assembly appropriates funds for need-based student loans in an effort to increase the numbers of professionals to practice in NC in these career fields. Bachelor's degree programs can receive up to $5,000 per year with a max loan amount of $15,000. Master's degree programs can receive up to $6,500 per year in 2 year masters programs with a max loan amount of $13, 000. Health Professional/Doctoral Programs can receive up to $8,500 per year with a maximum loan amount of $34,000.

Interest accrues at 4% annually from the date of disbursement. In some instances, borrowers may have their loans forgiven in exchange for approved service ( work) as designated to the State of North Carolina. Eligibility criteria include: US citizen and NC resident, admitted into an approved undergraduate of graduate program, financial need, secured signatures and cosigner signatures. Fields of study include allied health, dentistry, medicine, nursing, science, pharmacy, public heath, etc.

A competitive federal program which awards scholarships to students pursuing primary care health professions training. National Italian American Foundation Scholarships

The NIAF offers scholarships and grants to outstanding students. Awards are based on academic merit for Italian-American students who demonstrate potential and high academic achievements. National Security Education Program

Graduate international fellowships are available for specialization in area and language study or adding "an important international dimension" to education. The funds are for students studying languages, cultures, and world regions other than Western Europe, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. The fellowships are intended to support US graduate students who will pursue the study of languages and cultures deemed critical to US national security, and who would consider federal government service. The National Institute of Health sponsors this program for students from a disadvantaged background to pursue undergraduate degrees in the life sciences to support professions needed by the NIH. The Sallie Mae 911 Education Fund Scholarship

This fund was created in response to the 911 terrorist attacks. Summerville Medical Center/Berlin G. Myers Scholarship

Trident Medical Center offers 5 $1000 scholarships to students who are permanent residents of Dorchester, Charleston and Berkeley counties who have declared a major in a medical related profession. The winner must begin college in the fall semester of the year of the award. A letter of acceptance to an approved college must accompany the application. The winner must attend, Trident Tech, CSU, CofC or MUSC and the money can be used for tuition, books, supplies and housing. Applicants must have completed at least 1 semester of study toward a degree in a medical related field, provide evidence of participation in school activities and community service projects that support community service and good citizenship, provide a personal essay that describes personal goals and qualities that would make the student a good candidate for the scholarship and nomination by a school official. The ThanksUSA Scholarship offers assistance to legally dependent children, age 24 or under , and all legal spouses of active duty U.S. Military service personnel.

Selection criteria are based on financial need, academic achievement, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities. Drs. Yvonne and Linda Thornton MD/DDS Scholarship

This scholarship is offered through A Room Full of Sisters Investment Club. It is for under-represented minority students. Selection is based on scholarstic ability and leadership qualities. Applicants should be a freshman or first year student woman of color who is either a descendent of an American slave or of Native American heritage, be a student in good standing at her university and be accepted into an accredited American allopathic medical/dental school on or before February 1st. The Turkish American Doctors of Midwest Scholarship

The Turkish American Doctors Association of Midwest awards two scholarships of $1000 a year to medical and dental students. Health Professions Scholarship Program (HPSP)

Future dentists and physicians are eligible for this program. The scholarship pays full tuition, fees, supplies, equipment, books, and any item required by your school to complete your program. In addition, each recipient will receive an annual stipend of $19,500 to $21,500, which will be paid in monthly installments. Dentists will be offered the opportunity to attend an Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) and physicians will attend a residency program upon graduation. No active duty service time is required until completion of your academic program. Scholarships are available for 1, 2, 3, and 4 years. Recipients serve as an active duty U.S. Air Force dentist or physician officer for a minimum of 3 years for a 1 to 3 year scholarship and 4 years for a 4 year scholarship.

Financial Assistance Program (FAP)

Dentists and physicians who either are actively attending or who have been accepted to a residency may apply for this program. Recipients are paid an annual grant and are provided with monthly stipends which value approximately $45,000.00 annually. This pay is in addition to any stipend your residency provides to you. Recipients will also earn credit for service in the U.S. Air Force during their residency. Recipients serve as an active duty U.S. Air Force officer in their trained specialty for the equivalent plus one year of the time they participate in the program.

Pauletta and Denzel Washington Family Gifted Scholars in Neuroscience Award

This award is for undergraduate, graduate and medical students. It encourages and mentors potential scientists and physicians to enter the neurological research field. Eligibility criteria include: qualifications and interest in research, prior scientific work, reference letters, selection committee evaluations. 1 undergraduate student will receive a $2,000 monthly stipend and one grad/medical student will receive a $2,500 monthly stipend for a 3-month period to conduct research at a lab at Cedars-Sinai hospital.
