Student Diversity at MUSC
The Office of Student Diversity is able to offer additional financial opportunities to multicultural students, who are currently enrolled at the MUSC. We encourage you to stop by the office or call to see if you are eligible for fiscal support that may be available annually. All recipients must be U.S. citizens to be eligible for funding. Opportunities include:
Graduate Incentive Scholarship (GIS) Awards
The scholarships are funded by the South Carolina Commission on Higher Education, and provide forgivable loans to African American, Hispanic American and Native American, full-time students in masters, first professional, and doctoral programs. The eligible student must be a U.S. citizen and remain in good academic standing while receiving the award. A recipient agrees that upon completion of his/her educational programs at MUSC he/she will maintain residence and employment in South Carolina for one calendar year for each $5,000 or portion thereof awarded. The amount of the scholarship is based upon funding and may vary from semester to semester.
Emergency Student Loan and Scholarship Program
Funded through the Health Sciences Foundation from an endowment, loans and scholarships are provided for emergency expenses and any unexpected student crisis. This funding is limited and dispersed at the discretion of the Director. Students may be required to provide documentation for funding support. Every student emergency will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Student Leadership Development Stipend
These funds provide opportunities for assistance with program registration and fees in support of affinity groups and members of student organizations who must attend national conferences and programs as a requirement of their leadership role. Annual support is limited dependent upon available funding.
Program Prep for Boards
Access and Equity funds are available to eligible students for board preparation.
A student must have exhausted all resources provided by MUSC via Kaplan services and MUSC’s Center for Academic Excellence before being eligible for this resource. OSD funding provides additional, intensive, training primarily as a last option before a student’s final sitting of Boards.
