MUSC Student Government Association
Welcome Letter
Welcome!
It is my pleasure, on behalf of the Student Government Association, to welcome you to the Medical University of South Carolina! It is a great honor to have been accepted to such an outstanding learning institution and we are glad that you have become a part of the MUSC community.
MUSC works hard to ensure that its students receive a first-rate education and is continually evolving to maintain a state-of-the-art learning environment. Recent transformations include the completion of the Drug Discovery and Bioengineering facilities, which provides new space for the College of Graduate Studies and the College of Pharmacy and also MUSC’s new Urban Farm.
Here at MUSC we take great pride in our interprofessional education. As you know, working in interdisciplinary teams is essential to providing quality patient care. MUSC offers many opportunities for students to interact with each other across the six colleges, such as the Presidential Scholars Program, the CLARION Competition, the MUSC Simulation Center, and the Student Government Association (SGA).
The SGA is the premier student organization at MUSC. We are the voice of the student body and our mission is to ensure the students’ needs and concerns are addressed so that we all have the best learning experience possible. It is important for students to take an active role at the university level. I encourage all students to consider representing their class as an SGA Representative, which is a great way to become involved with the university.
While the SGA spends much of its time promoting the advancement of our education, we also have the pleasure of providing outstanding extracurricular activities. We work closely with the Student Programs Office to offer intramural sports, cultural, service and social events. Our events are always fun and very well attended. Some of the students’ all-time favorites include the Back to School party, the Art Walk, the Oyster Roast, the Winetasting, and our end-of-school beach bash, Alhambra. These events are meant to provide students with a break from studying and to encourage social interaction among the six colleges.
I am honored to be your SGA President, and I hope to make your time here at MUSC a memorable one. If you have any questions, concerns, or comments please contact me at sga@musc.edu or through the Student Programs Office.
Sincerely,
Brandon J. Hagan
MUSC SGA President
