Constitutional Amendment

SGA Academic VP 2006-2007

1.  Purpose: Amend the MUSC-SGA constitution to outline the procedures for executive officer succession and provide exception for the presidential office and separate the procedure for candidate disqualification.

2.  Be it Enacted by the Medical University of South Carolina Student Government Association assembled in regular session the following:

3.  That the Medical University of South Carolina Student Government Association Constitution be altered to read as follows.  The current constitution contains conflicting clauses concerning the succession of executive offices in MUSC-SGA.

4.  Article III, Section 5 reads:
In the event that an elected officer cannot fulfill his duties, or is disqualified from the election then all SGA members and all candidates for that position will be asked to apply to the general SGA, which will elect a replacement based on plurality vote.

Let the section be amended to read:
In the event that an elected officer, with the exception of the presidential succession outlined in Article III, Section 8, Sub-section (g), cannot fulfill his duties all SGA members will be asked to apply to the general SGA, which will elect a replacement based on plurality vote.  If a candidate is disqualified from an election, the remaining candidates will be asked to apply to the general SGA, which will elect the officer based on a plurality vote.
