A Constitutional Amendment

Addition of violations to the university honor code

Purpose: To amend the current Bylaws to broaden the scope of violations to be considered.

Whereas: Currently the council is limited in certain areas pertaining to possible violations of the university honor code.

Be it enacted by the Medical University of South Carolina College of  Honor Council assembled in session the following:
That the Medical University of South Carolina Honor council Bylaws be altered to read as follows.

Scope reads:
2. a. Plagiarism: using the ideas, information, work, or writings of another person and accepting credit for the work as one's own without proper acknowledgment on any paper, test, essay, lab work, research, or similar course activity.

5. Unauthorized entry or presence in any office, laboratory, clinic, or other location is a violation of the Honor Code. Likewise, the abuse or destruction of any instruments, equipment, supplies, property, or books constitutes an offense of the Honor Code.

Let the section be amended to read:
2.  a. Plagiarism: intentionally or unintentionally using the ideas, information, work, or writings of another person and accepting credit for the work as one's own without proper acknowledgment on any paper, test, essay, lab work, research, or similar course activity.

5. Unauthorized entry or presence in any office, laboratory, clinic, or other location is a violation of the Honor Code. Likewise, the purposeful or malicious abuse or destruction of any instruments, equipment, supplies, property, or books constitutes an offense of the Honor Code

6. Inappropriate use of technology
a. Any use of templates/formatting should be approved prior to their use on an exam or assignment
b. Solicitation or distribution of potentially hazardous electronic files and or programs including but not limited t phishing scams, adware, spyware, and computer viruses
c. Inappropriate downloading of files, music, pornography or copyrighted material
