Biography

Dr. Basco is an active health services researcher who has served as the PI on research grants from AHRQ and HRSA. His AHRQ-supported research has focused on pediatric ambulatory prescribing errors, using South Carolina Medicaid claims data to evaluate Look-alike, Sound-alike drug name substitution errors as well as potential opioid overdoses to children < 3 years old. Dr. Basco has published more than 60 manuscripts in the peer-reviewed literature. He was the pediatric lead on a grant sponsored by the CDC’s “Community Transformation Implementation Plan (CTIP)” initiative that resulted in the development and fielding of an 11-item “pediatric report” that is used by practices participating in the Care Coordination Institute (CCI), a regional learning collaborative of pediatric, family medicine, and internal medicine primary care practices.He currently serves as the Director of the Division of General Pediatrics and is the Pediatric Co-Director of the Academic Generalist Fellowship program at MUSC.
