Biography

Dr. Ranwala is a Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) and Associate Director for the South Carolina Clinical and Translational Research (SCTR) Institute Pilot Project Program and Team Science Program. She received her PhD in Plant Physiology from Clemson University, and pursued post-doctoral training in the fields of carbohydrate metabolism at Cornell University, and botanical medicine at Clemson University's Institute for Nutraceutical Research where she initiated interdisciplinary basic and clinical translational research collaborations with MUSC. She has been a co-investigator on multidisciplinary teams that led a head/neck cancer clinical trial and studied anti-inflammatory properties of nutraceuticals on colon cancer and oral health related basic research. In 2009, Dr. Ranwala joined the SCTR Institute, funded by an NIH Clinical & Translational Science Award (CTSA). Her primary roles within SCTR include the administration and management of the Pilot Project Program and Team Science Program to help in developing new interdisciplinary research teams and translational research to promote Science of Team Science. She has been involved in many aspects of the team science initiatives within MUSC and the national CTSA Consortium in developing Team Science education and training initiatives for the translational research teams. She is a faculty mentor and scholar for the Presidential Scholars Program.
