Visiting Student Application Service (VSAS)

The Visiting Student Application Service (VSAS) is an AAMC application designed to make it easier for medical students to apply for senior electives at U.S. medical schools and teaching hospitals.

When can I submit VSAS applications?

You may submit applications only after a VSAS host institution makes their electives available for application. The application date will vary between host institutions so use your VSAS "Institutions" tab (available February 2010) to research these days.

What if I'm an international or osteopathic student?

VSAS is not yet available for international, osteopathic or students enrolled at Canadian medical schools to use. Please continue to use the Extramural Electives Compendium (EEC) for visiting student application information.

When can I log in?

Student Users

Your medical school must issue you authorizations before you may log in to VSAS. You will be notified of these authorizations by email. If you have not received this email please contact your medical school with this authorization request.

Institution Users

Your institution must create a user account for you before you can log in to VSAS. If you have not received an email with log in instructions, please contact your institution's primary contact with your request.

Contact VSAS Help Desk

If your question is not addressed above or through the VSAS website, please contact the VSAS Help Desk by e-mail ( or phone 202-478-9878, Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. EST
