Prevention, Health, and Wellness in Family Medicine

  Cardiovascular disease, lung disease and cancer are the most common conditions in the United States and are in large part preventable. One of the main focuses of the Department of Family Medicine is comprehensive preventive clinical care, with an academic focus on education and research in the area of prevention and wellness.

Grand Rounds

Informative lectures are held for those who would like to attend simultaneously at three locations (with video-link) on Fridays at 12 noon: the Family Medicine conference room in 5 Charleston Center, the Ellis Oaks conference room, and the Trident Family Medicine conference room on the campus of Trident Hospital.

The Comprehensive Primary Care and Prevention Program

The Comprehensive Primary Care and Prevention Program features distinguished members of the faculty practice of the Department of Family Medicine. Appointments for a medical examination, consultation, or a prevention check-up can be obtained by calling 843-792-3451. The Program features physicians who have been recognized as national leaders in primary care and comprehensive prevention services.

NCQA Recognitions

The department received the elite rank by becoming a Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH). Family Medicine achieved a level 3 PCMH rating by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) which is the highest level of recognition.
