Reach Out and Read Program

The Family Medicine Center has been a partner with Reach Out and Read - South Carolina for about a year and UFM has just gotten its approval to participate in the program.  More information about our participation soon.

MUSC C.A.R.E.S.

MUSC CARES is a medical student initiated and managed non-profit organization dedicated to providing free medical care to the underserved population in the local Charleston area.  The mission is to provide Community Aid, Relief, Education, and Support.  Our vision to develop a student-run free medical clinic is becoming a reality through the partnership and support of MUSC and East Cooper Community Outreach (ECCO).  An article in The Catalyst gives a more detailed description of this project.  MUSC CARES plans to open its doors to the public in July, 2005 at ECCO's Six Mile Road facility in Mount Pleasant.  Poster (pdf file) created for the clinic.  We are currently searching for volunteers from all medical disciplines as well as anyone else interested in caring for the community.  Contact Thuy Vu to learn more about volunteer opportunities.  To learn more about the department's involvement contact Dr. Wanda Gonsalves.
