Dr. Thomas Rowland, Jr. is a professor at both the University Of South Carolina School Of Medicine and the Medical University of South Carolina. Dr. Rowland has held several prestigious positions including president of the South Carolina Medical Association, president of the South Carolina OBGYN society, president of the Southern OBGYN society, president of the South Atlantic Association for Obstetrics and Gynecology, president of the Southern Medical Association, and treasurer of the American College of OBGYN. Dr. Rowland has also been a member of the MUSC Board of Trustees since 1982 which includes his three terms as chairman.
After graduating from the University of South Carolina, Dr. Rowland received his MD from the Medical College of South Carolina (currently known as MUSC). Dr. Rowland then did an internship at Greenville General Hospital before joining the Navy. After completing his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, Dr. Rowland served reserve duty in the Navy before settling in Columbia, South Carolina to work in private practice. Dr. Rowland has been a two-time recipient of the Order of the Palmetto and was named the Distinguished Alumnus of MUSC in 1994.
