RESIDENT AGREEMENT

STATEMENT OF POLICY

Residents are provided a contractual agreement that outlines the terms and conditions of their educational appointment. (See Appendix 1)

PROCEDURES

  1. The agreement specifies the following:

    1.1 Resident responsibilities;
    1.2 Institutional responsibilities;
    1.3 Stipend support and benefits including:  health and disability insurance, professional liability insurance, leave of absence, annual and sick leave, counseling services, etc.
    1.4 Duration of appointment and conditions of reappointment;
    1.5 Policies regarding professional activities outside the educational program;
    1.6 Procedures for discipline and redress of grievances;
    1.7 Procedures for handling complaints of sexual harassment and exploitation.
    1.8 Work conditions regarding on-call meal program, on-call rooms, resident lounge areas, etc.
    1.9 Promotion of patient safety and education through carefully constructed duty hours assignments and faculty supervision
    1.10 Policies on handling physician impairment
    1.11 Stipulation that residents are not required to moonlight and are not required to sign a non-competition agreement
    1.12 Policies regarding residency program closure or reduction
  2. Annual renewal of the Resident Agreement is contingent upon reappointment by the Program Director, and the Designated Institutional Official for GME (See policy on Promotion and Resignation, Transfer or Non-Reappointment of Residents).
