A joint research and research training program between Clemson University and the Medical University of South Carolina was initiated in the fall of 2003. Five Clemson faculty from their Department of Bioengineering are permanently located on the MUSC campus; Dr. Jeremy Gilbert was recruited in January 2017 as Director of the initiative. The program fosters medically related work in bioengineering, with a focus on polymeric biomaterials, medical devices and regenerative medicine.
We presently have 20 Clemson bioengineering graduate students on campus. They take their coursework from Clemson via videoconferencing, and we will also be originating bioengineering courses here that will be transmitted to Clemson.
