Histotechnology Certificate Program

About the Program

The Post Bachelors Histotechnology Certificate program is a 1-year educational program based in the histotechnology laboratories of the Medical University of South Carolina Medical Center. We offer two options of study, traditional education and distance education. The three-semester curriculum consists of lectures, individualized instruction via computer and internet methods, and training in the clinical laboratory.

Subject areas include all basic and special techniques of histotechnology and management and educational concepts and practice necessary for the current operation of a histotechnology laboratory.

The program faculty are certified and experienced histotechnologists, technicians and pathologists. Students completing the Histotechnology program are eligible to sit for the national HTL Board of Registry exam administered by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP).

Mission Statement

The overall mission of the Histotechnology Program is to provide students with a high quality academic and professional environment allowing for the development of their intellectual and manipulative competencies and attainment of professional values and characteristics.  Inherent to this mission is the goal to prepare a competent and professional histotechnologist. The educational program will be continually assessed to ensure a high quality program.

Program Goals

The Histotechnology Program is designed to assist students in their achievement of job entry level competencies within the profession and provide a foundation for their future professional goals.  Therefore, the program will maintain the necessary resources, qualified faculty and structured educational experience to prepare the program graduate to be able to:
