Histotechnology Certificate program
Histotechnology Distance Education
In October 2010 the first group of distance education students matriculated in The Histotechnology Program. The distance education option is designed for histology professionals who currently work in a histology laboratory and desire to continue their education and sit for the HTL Board of Registry exam. The focus of the education is on the theory of histotechnology. However, evidence of clinical competence must be submitted throughout the program.
Two start dates are available for DE students, April and September. While this option is more individualized than the traditional program, students are required to complete the program within one year. Accomodations may be made under certain circumstances.
Prior to matriculation into the program a clinical affiliation agreement must be established between MUSC and the affiliate laboratory. Clinical affiliates are responsible for laboratory supplies and equipment. MUSC will verify that the clinical experience is comparable to that of the MUSC onsite program.
Delivery Method
All didactic material will be delivered online via asynchronous media, and clinical experience will be provided by the affiliate laboratory. The course management system, Moodle, is used to deliver assignments, lecture material, and tests. Students will be required to have access to a personal computer with internet access.
For more information regarding specific dates, including application deadlines, please refer to the Academic Calendar.
