Histotechnology Certificate program
The onsite education program is designed for the person who has little to no experience in a histology laboratory. Students will learn histotechnology theory and clinical laboratory skills. Laboratory facilities are located in the Laboratory Services area on the 3rd floor of the Children’s Hospital of MUSC Medical Center. Classes begin in September and end in July. Students are expected to be onsite in the MUSC clinical laboratory Tuesday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Program breaks/vacations will be communicated at the beginning of the program.
This is a non-traditional program in that there are no face-to-face lectures. Students are expected to be self-motivated and active in their learning. Time is allocated throughout the day for students to review lecture material and readings. The majority of the time will be spent in the histology laboratory learning alongside practicing histotechnologists. This is a dynamic laboratory environment where students will gain real-world experience during their education.
All didactic material will be delivered online via asynchronous media, and clinical experience will be provided by the MUSC laboratory. The course management system, Moodle, is used to deliver assignments, lecture material, and tests. Onsite students have access to computers in the laboratory and at the MUSC library.
