State Specifications:
General Nature of Work:
Operates printing, duplicating, bindery and/or automatic phototypesetting equipment.
Guidelines for Class Use/Distinguishing Characteristics:
Positions assigned to this class operate printing, duplicating, bindery and/or automatic phototypesetting equipment for a majority of the work time.
Examples of Work:

Operates an offset printing press or phototypesetting machine; cleans, lubricates and makes adjustments and minor repairs to machines.
Sets up and operates lithographic camera; prepares lithographic plates using offset platemaker.
Prepares plates for offset presses using offset camera, metal platemaker and photo-direct processor.
Prepares camera-ready copy by stripping and opaqueing negatives, by opaqueing and highlighting film or by operating an automatic phototypesetting machine.
Operates, cleans and maintains blueprint or white developer machines used to photograph large maps; may serve as lead worker in a duplicating section preparing and binding large blue and white prints of maps and road plans.
Operates bindery/finishing equipment, automatic folders, inserters, collators, programmable cutters and other complex finishing equipment.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of offset printing or phototypesetting techniques and equipment.
Skill in operating, maintaining and repairing printing equipment and phototypesetting machines.
Ability to proofread complex printed materials.
