GA20 - Human Services Assistant II

State Specifications:

General Nature of Work:

Assists professional staff of a public social service agency and/or assists individuals with daily living skills.

Guidelines for Class Use/Distinguishing Characteristics:

Incumbents function as social services aides or attend to the physical comfort, safety and appearance of clients/patients/residents.

Examples of Work:

The intent of the listed examples is to give a general indication of the levels of difficulty and responsibility common to all positions in this class.)

Arranges transportation for individuals; assists in making housing arrangements and in securing goods and services.
Assists in locating job leads and on-the-job evaluation sites for clients.
Provides guidance to clients in the development of proper personal hygiene.
Performs housekeeping duties.
Observes individuals to determine any changes in physical or behavioral conditions.
Administers simple medication; takes temperatures, gives first aid and collects specimens; maintains necessary medication records.
Assists in the development of referrals and provides feedback to referral sources.
Implements treatment program for clients.
Reports progress of clients' status to members of treatment staff.
Inspects facilities, equipment and supplies.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of rehabilitation principles and practices.
Knowledge of information gathering techniques.
Knowledge of simple household budgeting money management.
Knowledge of the administration of medicine and simple treatment and care.
Knowledge of individual and group behavior activities.
Knowledge of sanitation, personal hygiene, basic health and safety practices.
Ability to record client data and prepare written reports.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Ability to follow instructions.
Ability to maintain good interpersonal relations with clients and coworkers.
