HD15 - Drafter I
General Nature of Work:
Performs specialized and skilled drafting or design duties.

Investigates job order requests, takes measurements and originates job requisitions.
Estimates cost of hours and materials for construction and maintenance work.
Prepares sketches, working and finished drawings for the construction or alteration of new or existing structures.
Prepares working drawings of mechanical, electrical and structural systems.
Prepares working drawings from topographic and hydrographic surveys.
Performs field work in checking building sites and elevations and in carrying out heavy construction surveys.
Reviews plans and specifications of contract architects to determine compliance with established standards.
Calculates structural requirements for heating, plumbing and lighting equipment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of drafting procedures.
Knowledge of building codes.
Knowledge of practices, procedures and principles of construction.
Knowledge of mathematics.
Skill in the use and care of drafting instruments, plotting boards and other related materials.
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, graphs and rendering maps.
Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to prepare, review and revise design plans and specifications.
State Minimum Training and Experience
State Necessary Special Requirements:

A high school diploma and drafting or design experience.
MUSC Minimum Training and Experience Requirements:
A high school diploma and one year drafting or design experience.
