State Specifications:

General Nature of Work:

Designs, executes, evaluates and communicates the results of scientific experiments.

Guidelines for Class Use/Distinguishing Characteristics:

  • Expert-level class with intellectual input into the research objectives of a principal investigator’s research program.
  • Not eligible to serve as PI on an active grant.

 

Examples of Work:

  • Manages multiple projects with minimal guidance from PI.
  • Develops new areas of research, experimental models, methodologies, and intellectual property.
  • Assists in planning, directing, and oversight of research objectives related to grant support.
  • Identifies and troubleshoots technical problems independent of PI.
  • Publishes scholarly works.
  • Gives presentations at society meetings.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Advanced knowledge of varied technologies.
  • Assists PI in project oversight and personnel management
  • Contributes to the intellectual development of the research team.

MUSC Minimum Training and Experience:

A PhD, MD or equivalent with two years postdoctorate experience plus evidence of scholarly activity as demonstrated by at least five first author publications.
