New Employee Orientation


Welcome! As a new hire to MUSC, we would like to welcome you to what we hope will be a rewarding and rich experience. Human Resources Management offers a New Employee Orientation which includes a Benefits overview. The briefings are held in Harborview Office Tower, Room 803 on Monday mornings, Tuesdays if Monday is a holiday, at 9 a.m. New employees should plan to arrive between 8:00 a.m. and 8:15 a.m. to register for parking and have their picture taken for their ID badge. Orientation will end no later than 1 p.m. and employees should plan their day accordingly. The New Employee Orientation provides information about our institution, as well as resources that may contribute to your success at MUSC. An overview of the university’s mission, the components of MUSC University and other valuable information are provided during the orientation.

On your first day at work, MUSC will need to verify work eligibility. Please bring identification found on the list of acceptable documents for the I-9 and E-Verify. At Orientation, all new hires are required to provide their Social Security Card, a voided check for direct deposit and vehicle registration for parking assignment. International employees are required to provide their Visa and any supporting documentation (I-797, I-94, etc). For inquiries, please call the Office of International Support at (843) 792-7083 or the Department of Human Resources Management (843) 792-2237.

You will also need to bring social security numbers, dates of birth and additional documentation to add dependents to insurance or select a beneficiary.  Please review the list of documents required to add dependent coverage.




Mandatory Compliance Training

HIPAA stands for the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act. This federal law mandates a standard for privacy and security of protected health information as well as the standardization of some electronic transactions within the healthcare industry.

You will be required to complete HIPAA training and to update this training on an annual basis.  It will encompass general HIPAA training and Healthcare IT Security training.  Your supervisor will arrange for you to complete the on-line training through the CATTS system within two weeks of your hire date.

Volunteers, Visiting Scholars, non-paid Student Interns, etc. will be registered for training by the Department of Human Resources Management, Employment Services, Room 105 Harborview Office Tower.
