Pilates improves posture, breathing, flexibility, strength, and body awareness. Pilates will enhance your performance in every sport and improve the quality of your everyday life. Pilates training helps to strengthen what’s weak and stretch what is tight for improved body mechanics. It can radically transform the way your body looks, feels and moves and aids in reducing injuries. By developing proper technique, you can actually re-train your body to move in safer, more efficient patterns of motion.
Our innovative additions to the Pilates Studio include the Apparatus Circuit Class and Virtual Pilates.
Why use just one piece of equipment in class? This 50 minute group circuit uses every resource available to transform your mind, body and soul. The class incorporates mat exercises, Reformer exercises, and Cadillac exercises all in one class, with a little Wunda chair thrown in for fun! Deepen your understanding of your body and Pilates by experiencing the apparatus as well as the mat work together. Classes will be added in 2017.
Group Class Schedule
As an active member of Pilates Place MUSC, you will have free access to our light-filled private Pilates studio. Come enjoy a guided video workout from our talented and experienced trainers, or create a workout of your own. Participants must be approved by the trainer to use the studio during our designated Virtual Pilates hours. Members must have an active package of Pilates sessions.
Meet the Instructors:
Michelle Donnelly studied and trained in Pilates for four years before completing over 700 hours of comprehensive training and apprenticeship. Michelle received her certification in the Authentic Pilates Method of Body Conditioning from Excel Movement Studios in Washington, D.C. and has been teaching for over 12 years. Michelle’s instructors were trained by Romana Kryzanowska, principal protégé of Joe and Clara Pilates. Michelle was one of the first to take the standardized Pilates test developed by the Pilates Method Alliance and was gold certified. Romana was once asked why she still taught just like Joe. Her reply was, “Because it works.” This is also Michelle’s philosophy. This is why she stays true to and believes in the original work of Joseph Pilates. As Joe used to say, “10 sessions you feel different, 20 sessions you look different, 30 sessions you have a new body.”
Michelle had a Pilates studio within a gym for 8 years. She then taught in her own stand-alone studio in Great Falls, Virginia, where her business continued to flourish for 3 ½ more years.
Michelle, her husband, and 2 Portuguese Water Dogs have just moved to Charleston from Virginia. She is very excited to continue her Pilates career at the Pilates Place at MUSC. The Donnelly’s look forward to enjoying all the lowcountry and Charleston have to offer for years to come.
Diane started her Pilates journey in 1998. After years of teaching Group Fitness at The Chatham Club in Chatham, New Jersey, she was asked to take a Pilates session. Diane took her first session with Kathryn Ross Nash and became hooked. She was accepted into Romana Kryzanowska’s intensive one year apprenticeship program in NYC. Diane was fortunate and is forever grateful to have studied with First Generation teachers Romana Kryzanowska, Joseph Pilates’s protégé, and her daughter Sari Mejia Santo as well as many other well- known teachers including Mari Windsor, Bob Leichens, and Brooke Siler. In 2000, Diane received her Romana Teacher certification and became the Director of the Pilates Studio at The Chatham Club where she was instrumental in the development of all Pilate’s programs at the club.
In 2005, Diane opened up her own Pilates studio, The Pilates Studio of Morristown where she continued to thrive and share her passion for the work with others. Diane’s love of Pilates is contagious. She describes her teaching style as classical with a flair of contemporary. Her students are all ages, bodies, and abilities and they never leave her studio without feeling invigorated, energized, and challenged. Diane is also ACE, AFAA, and Johnny G Spinning Certified and continues taking classes in Pilates, Barre, and Yoga as well as wellness and integrated medicine.
