MUSC Wellness Center Lead by U.S. Marine Corps Drill Instructors
This military style physical training class focuses on overall fitness training as well as running. The camaraderie, accountability, and leadership of the U.S. Marines make this program the most unique and fun pathway to fitness. During fall and spring semesters MUSC Boot Camp is a 12 week program. Summer Boot Camps are shorter and usually run four to six weeks in length. All Boot Camps are lead by US Marine Drill Instructors and are considered intermediate to advanced level. The class meets at the MUSC Wellness Center gym three days a week – Monday, Tuesday and Thursday at 6:00am – 7:00am. Participants of the Boot Camp need to be free of any health problems or musculoskeletal limitations. Modifications of the class content are the responsibility of the participant. Participants must be well hydrated before the first class and stay well hydrated during the program. Beginner Boot Camp is a pre-requisite for the 12 week programs only. Beginner Boot Camp can last up to four weeks depending on the fitness progression of the participant. This class is part of the regular Boot Camp but meets in the Main Group Studio for the first four weeks. The shorter summer Boot Camps include an introductory class for new participants instead of the required Beginner Boot Camp. Some sessions also include “Spec Ops” on Fridays for the very advanced.The Marine Drill Instructors are not exercise specialists, but do have the necessary training to lead military physical fitness readiness training. Many Boot Campers also attend The Joe D. Band Hall of Fame Fitness class at 6:00am on Wednesday and Friday mornings in the gym. There are also organized Boot Camp running groups on Wednesday and Friday mornings for anyone interested. New Boot Campers of all fitness levels are always welcome in these running groups.
