Phase 2 Healthy Charleston Challenge May 2012
Phase 2 of the MUSC Healthy Charleston Challenge is a 6 week continuation of education and team based weight loss and activity competition. This program will help put into action all that was learned in HCC. It will reinforce lifestyle habits that are necessary for optimal health and continued weight loss. Phase 2 will keep you engaged in the daily work of good nutrition and exercise with the needed accountability and camaraderie. The staff includes a registered dietitian, experienced personal trainers, and Culinary Institute experts. This program does not include the same team competition as the regular HCC. Everyone is responsible for losing 15 pounds. The winning team is determined by each participant being successful in losing the 15 pounds.
What: Weight loss program for those who have already completed HCC. Phase 2 completes the process of making and reinforcing healthy habits for permanent weight loss results. Requirements to be accepted: • Successfully completing HCC with acceptable attendance, participation, and trainer recommendation • 20+ pounds overweight • Time and commitment necessary to continue weight loss and healthy lifestyle • Attendance of Thursday meetings • Three team workouts the first three weeks and two workouts the last three weeks • Activity and food tracking required with Phase 2 tracking logs, plus Spark People logs
When: May 3 to June 14, 2012
Thursday meetings: 5:45 pm to 7:15 pm
Phase 2 includes: • weekly weigh-in • cooking instructions • group workouts and team workouts (3 per week for three weeks, and 2 for the last three weeks) • grocery store visit (will be done during a Thur. meeting which is mandatory) • recipe revisions • Post testing (no pre-testing) • Education including anatomy, injury prevention, strength training, nutrition, supplements, local opportunities for fresh produce and food items, how to eat healthy on a budget, how to change your favorite recipes into a healthier version, how to plan your grocery store shopping list. • Focus on specific meals…..breakfast, lunch, and dinner and how to prepare fast and economical
