News...Labs of Drs. Zihai Li and Bei Liu Unveil Novel Mechanism of Cancer Inflammation
Dr. Crystal Morales and Mr. Saleh Rachidi, two Ph.D. students in the laboratory of Dr. Zihai Li, have jointly uncovered a critical role of a molecular chaperone gp96 in endowing tumor-associated macrophage (TAM) to promote genotoxic stress and colitis-associated colon cancer. Supported by NIH grants, this study represents a team effort from the labs of Drs. Zihai Li and Bei Liu in their continuing pursuit of the remarkable roles gp96 plays in regulating innate immunity and cancer. These new findings may have significant clinical implications, given the availability of highly selective gp96 inhibitors. The study will appear in the first issue of Cancer Research in 2014 and be further highlighted in Oncoimmunology.
