Department of Microbiology and Immunology

Welcome New M&I Faculty Member – Jeff Hammerbacher

It is our pleasure to welcome Jeff Hammerbacher to the faculty of the Department of Microbiology & Immunology. Jeff has worked with researchers at Mount Sinai and Memorial Sloan Kettering since 2013 to use sequence data to interrogate the immune response to cancer. He has developed several open source software programs to facilitate the identification of tumor neoepitopes for the purpose of therapeutic vaccination and uncovering biomarkers that predict response to checkpoint blockade. He served as Data Manager for Facebook from 2006 – 2008. He is Founder and Chief Scientist of Cloudera. He is Assistant Professor of Genetics and Genomic Sciences with Mount Sinai, New York, NY and he is jointly appointed as Research Assistant Professor of Microbiology & Immunology at the Medical University of South Carolina. We are excited that Jeff has joined our Department and we look forward to working with him to build a strong quantitative immunology program at MUSC.
