Dr. Tomlinson Receives SCTR Discover Grant
Dr. Stephen Tomlinson was awarded a $25,000 SCTR Discovery Grant. The project’s title is, “A Novel Targeting Approach for Chimeric Antigen Receptor T Regulatory Cells to Prevent Transplant Rejection.” Major concern with current treatment strategies to prevent organ rejection after transplantation is toxicity. To prevent organ rejection, recipient patients require systemic immunosuppressive drugs that can cause organ damage, metabolic disorders, cancer, and an increase in susceptibility to infection. This project proposes to investigate a novel strategy to target immunosuppression specifically to the transplanted organ and reduce or eliminate the systemic toxic side effects of currently available drugs that are required to prevent rejection.
