Junior Doctors of Health

About Us

The mission of Junior Doctors of Health (JDOH) is to prevent childhood obesity in underserved populations by creating “Junior Doctors of Health”,in which youth are empowered to take control of their own health and educate their families, friends, and communities about healthy eating and exercise. The program is implemented in public schools in underserved communities in Charleston and across the state. Through JDOH, student mentors of higher education teach youth about healthy choices, suggest ways to make changes to their current diet and physical activity, encourage children to explore health care professions, and ultimately eliminate health and education disparities in this population.

In order to target the child at multiple levels, JDOH offers Parent Nutrition Workshops, Teacher Exercise and Nutrition Programs (TEN), a Parent and Child Exercise Programs (PACE).
