Research Interest:
Chemistry of proteohormones and antimicrobial peptides: Our research focuses on the molecular diversity of the ovarian hormone relaxin and the structure and function of this hormone and its receptors. Recently we extended our research to penaeidins, peptides of the innate immune system of the shrimp. The chemistry includes isolation, sequencing, and synthesis of small proteins by solid phase peptide synthesis in combination with site-directed disulfide synthesis and native ligation. The method allows for specific modifications including many that are not obtainable by recombinant technologies.
