Research Interest:
Broadly, I am interested in molecular evolution, phylogenetics, and developmental biology.  I am currently working on a project that involves the phylogenetics of Holocephalan fishes to supplement the Tree of Life project aimed at chondrichthyan fishes.  I will be using next generation sequencing methods to capture and sequence approximately 1,200 nuclear genes for phylogenetic analysis to reconstruct the evolutionary relationships among these fishes.  For my dissertation, I will be investigating the molecular basis of sex determination among chondrichthyans.  The primary goal of this project is to determine the primary sex determination mechanism and explore the genes involved in sex determination and gonad differentiation among chondrichthyans.
