Furlough Timekeeping Guidelines
To assist departments in appropriately accounting for furlough time off, three new codes have been established in Kronos to track furlough hours. Please note that it is imperative that these codes are used correctly. They be available for use starting December 21, 2008. The KRONOS report “Time Detail for Specific Pay Codes” should be utilized by departments to monitor furlough activity in their respective areas.
Mandatory Furlough: FUR MAN
This code should ONLY be used by departments participating in the 4 day mandatory furlough (Academic Affairs; College of Dental Medicine; College of Nursing; Finance and Administration; and Library). The code will be used for tracking purposes only. The accrual code “Mandatory Furlough Balance” will be displayed in KRONOS for all employees. The balances will only be populated for those employees participating in the automated Furlough Program, with the hours that the employee is subject to take based on their FTE. The balance will be adjusted each pay period, to reflect any furlough time taken. Employee paychecks will be automatically reduced in accordance with the established schedule below:

Voluntary Furlough: FUR VOL
This code is used to track all voluntary furloughs. When used, it will impact the employee’s actual paycheck for which the time is entered; this is not an automated payroll calculation. For example, 8 furlough hours entered in Kronos will result in the employee’s paycheck being reduced by 8 hours without pay for that particular paycheck.
Departmental Mandatory Furlough: FUR DEPTMAN
This code is used to track all mandatory furloughs established by individual departments that are outside of the 4 day mandatory furlough outlined above. When used, it will impact the employee’s actual paycheck for which the time is entered; this is not an automated payroll calculation. For example, 8 furlough hours entered in Kronos will result in the employee’s paycheck being reduced by 8 hours without pay for that particular paycheck.
