Dental Medicine's E4D System

E4D MachineE4D Dentist is designed with the patient and dental professional in mind. The E4D system is an easy to use chairside CAD/CAM system that is empowering modern dentistry. Same day crowns, inlays, onlays, and veneers increase your productivity, provide a tremendous convenience for patients, and give complete control of the final restoration. Intuitive and easy to use, the E4D empowers the dentist to create beautiful restorations that provide the form, fit and function needed and patients deserve.

The E4D CAD/CAM technology system is utilized for imaging and delivering quality restorations in a dental office. CADCAM technology may be used to image a tooth and send that information to an outside laboratory, or in the case of the systems we have at MUSC, the restoration may be fabricated in house, enabling the patient to receive it the same day. A digital image is taken of the prepared tooth. That image is then sent to a computer for design of the restoration and then to a milling unit on the premises. Patients no longer have to have an impression made or return for a second visit to have an inlay, onlay , veneer or crown. Currently there are two systems on the market that provide this technology. The College of Dental Medicine became an education center for CAD/CAM technology in 2009. The CDM is the first dental school in the nation  to teach CAD/CAM dentistry both preclinically and clinically.

High quality, beautiful restorations can be completed in a single appointment, providing convenience for the patient and increased efficiency to the dental team.

CAD/CAM restorations are available both in the CDM student clinic program and in Dental Faculty Practice.
