Dr. Melanie Thomas

Liver Cancer Researcher, Dr. Melanie Thomas

Dr. Thomas, a medical oncologist and renowned liver cancer researcher, joined Hollings Cancer Center in 2008. She holds the Grace E. DeWolff Chair Endowed  Chair as part of the Center of Economic Excellence in Gastrointestinal Malignancies at MUSC. 

Dr. Thomas was recruited from M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. Her focus includes increasing patient participation in clinical trials, optimizing the HCC's clinical  research  capabilities and opportunities and expanding the HCC Clinical Trials Network. 

Dr. Thomas' clinical research focus includes developing effective systemic therapies for patients with cancers of the liver, gallbladder and bile ducts (hepatobiliary tumors) using novel or “targeted” therapies.  Her work has lead to multi-institutional , randomized clinical trials of novel drugs in hepatocellular cancer, which are now available at MUSC-HCC.
