International Day, 2009
The academic life of MUSC is wonderfully enriched by our international students, post-docs, faculty, and staff and we deeply appreciate their contributions to the University. Currently over 70% of our post-docs are international and we host 42 students from around the world who are enrolled in our six colleges. The two largest groups are from India and China.
Recognizing that the transition to American culture can be daunting, MUSC has an International Programs Office, directed by Rebecca Mueller. Rebecca knows first-hand the challenges of cultural adaptation, as she lived for seven years in Viet Nam. She helps our International colleagues with problems ranging from housing to finding a host family to questions about cultural norms. She works closely with the legal resources at MUSC who help with international documentation issues.
A highlight of the year is International Day, which Rebecca organizes with help from the International Community. This year’s International Day occurred on April 9 and featured an exciting array of dance and music performances from around the world. Booths offered samples of exotic cuisine and there was an international marketplace. The festival reflected the vibrancy of international life at MUSC
