MUSC's Award Winning Simulation Center
The MUSC Simulation Center is an 11,000 square foot multidisciplinary training facility featuring 14 multipurpose simulation rooms. Under the state-wide direction of Dr. John Schaefer, MUSC participates in a collaborative of similar facilities including USC’s College of Nursing, Clemson University’s School of Nursing, the Greenville Hospital System, and Greenville Technical College.
The mission of the Center is to:
- Improve the quality of delivered care
- Promote patient safety
- Advance the practice and training efficiency of a critically understaffed workforce
- Grow to be an international focal point for health sciences education and innovative research in education and safety
The Center currently provides education to a full range of disciplines and specialties. Educational offerings range from basic skills training on partial task trainers to high fidelity, competency-based simulation activities. Since opening the MUSC facility in June 2008, the center provided over 400 classes to over 10,000 participants. Additionally over 100 informational tours that included over 1900 visitors have been conducted since June 2008. There are currently 71 active courses with 6 in development.
The Center is accredited by the American College of Surgeons and received the “Laerdal Center of Educational Excellence” endorsement.
