Peggy Schachte

Board of Trustees' Resolution in Appreciation of Ms. Peggy Schachte, MBA

WHEREAS the Board of Trustees of the Medical University of South Carolina, grateful for the outstanding contributions of our most valued faculty and employees, declares that Margaret Pringle Schachte, B.A., M.B.A., Director of the Office of Research Development and Associate Professor in the Department of Library Science and Informatics, has had a profoundly positive impact on our institution during her thirty-nine years of service as a leader in research development and institutional growth; and

WHEREAS Margaret Pringle Schachte was born in Charleston, SC, earned a B.A. in English Literature from Duke University, and a M.B.A. from Emory University; and

WHEREAS she distinguished herself with initial service in the Department of Psychiatry at the Medical University of South Carolina, as Executive Vice President of the Drug Science Foundation in Charleston, South Carolina, as Director of Research Administrative Services & Planning, and, subsequently, as Director of the Office of Research Development at the Medical University of South Carolina; and

WHEREAS her thirty-nine years of service to the Medical University of South Carolina have been characterized by dedication and commitment to the highest standards, advocacy for research faculty, and loyalty to the institution; and

WHEREAS her service as the founding Director of the Office of Research Development from 1994 to the present has transformed the process of programmatic grant development and provided key resources for the development of junior faculty at the Medical University of South Carolina resulting in the growth of our research enterprise from $52 million to $217 million in annual awards; and

WHEREAS in her interactions with the National Institutes of Health and academic partners, she has consistently represented the Medical University of South Carolina with the highest professionalism and graciousness; and

WHEREAS she has fostered passion and intellectual curiosity that will continue long into the future, benefiting the Medical University of South Carolina and the broader community it serves,

HEREBY, BE IT KNOWN that the Board of Trustees of the Medical University of South Carolina expresses sincere gratitude for the many contributions of Margaret Pringle Schachte to our institution holding in great esteem the talents that she has so generously shared; unanimously and most enthusiastically resolved this Twelfth day of February, Two Thousand and Ten.
