Dr. Underwood is committed to improving the access of women, minorities, the disadvantaged, and the underserved to state-of-the-art cancer prevention and control programs and behavioral and biomedical research. Bell, MD, Associate Dean for Minority Affairs, College of Medicine, MUSC Dr. Bell is a family physician in private practice as well as associate dean for minority affairs. He has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Stellar Graduate Award for contributions in medicine from South Carolina State University (2006-07), the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Services Health Disparity Award (2005), and the South Carolina Academy of Medicine Physician of the Year Award (1996). In 2004, Bell founded Closing the Gap in Health Care, Inc. (CGHC), a successful health promotion and radio broadcast education campaign. CGHC was recognized with two silver and a merit award in the 17th Annual National Health Information Awards in 2010, the third straight year CGHC has been honored in this program recognizing the country’s best consumer health information programs and materials. |
