We will evolve our learning methods and translate educational principles to foster a lifelong learning environment for students, staff, and faculty. Interprofessionalism, team building, and technology will serve as our foundation as we seek to enhance the value of our educational initiatives, which extend to our patients and the communities we serve.
Recent Highlights of Achievements Fostering Innovative Education and Learning
James B. Edwards College of Dental Medicinestudents – Learning with the Community They Serve
MUSC’s dental medicine students are collaborating daily with the East Cooper Community Outreach providing dental care services to uninsured adults in the Charleston community. The opportunity exposes students to the barriers to oral health care facing this population and allows students to educate the patients on dental hygiene. In addition, many students volunteer their time at the Emergency Extraction Clinic. This collarboration strengthens the bond between students and the community and complements their overall education.
MUSC's Summer Undergraduate Research Program
This innovative 10-week experience combines lab research, professional development and allows college students from across the country to come to MUSC to explore careers in biomedical science and research. Inspiring Tomorrow’s Telehealth Champions…Today
Programs across MUSC are imbedding telehealth curriculum components into lectures and courses, including online modules and resources, and hands-on tours of the MUSC Center for Telehealth Learning Commons as part of their courses highlighting community and population health, systems of care, health care policy and clinical skills development. The Center for Telehealth includes an innovative Learning Commons for demonstration, training and troubleshooting activities. Learners of all levels and providers who are charged with delivering clinical telehealth services receive training and demonstrate their competencies with telehealth processes.
